106 NYSC members to be withdrawn over insecurity

About 106 National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in Okolobiri community in the outskirts of Yenagoa may be withdrawn over alleged insecurity.

This followed yesterday’s attack on the corpers lodge housing about sixty NYSC members by gunmen who carted away property valued at thousands of naira.

Apart from manhandling the hapless corps members, the hoodlums ransacked the lodge and made away with four laptops, six DVD players, jewelries and twenty one hand sets belonging to their victims

Also carted away were shoes, television sets and N50, 000 cash.

The hoodlums about six in number reportedly stormed the lodge with sophisticated weapons shooting indiscriminately to whittle down any possible resistance from the natives.

It was also learnt that the unarmed policemen in the vicinity fled the scene of crime given the fire power of  the intruders.

The State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Gloria Obiorha who confirmed the incident said approval has been given to effect the withdrawal of all the serving corps members in the community owning to the problem of insecurity.

The Public Relations Officer, Pius Iyamah, who spoke on before of the coordinator, said all the 106 corps members in Okolobiri would be withdrawn and redeployed to a safer community that needed their service.

She disclosed that, security of lives of the corps members are paramount to the nation and decried the robbery attack on the corps members.

Attempt to get the comment of the corps members at the lodge prove abortive saying only the NYSC Public Relations Officer could speak on the matter.

However a police officer at Okolobiri police station on duty confirmed the robbery attack on the lodge but declined to give further details.

Contacted on phone, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Solomon Omoemin, ASP while confirming the incident saying the command is yet to be officially briefed on the incident.
