Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Newswatch Communications Ltd, publishers of Newswatch magazine, Alhaji Yakubu Mohammed, has joined the race for the governorship seat in Kogi State.
Mohammed, an accomplished journalist and columnist, is to formally declare hisÂ intention to vie for the position tomorrow at 10 amÂ in Dekina Town, Dekina Local Government of Kogi State. His platform is the Peopleâ€™s Democratic Party, PDP.
At the event which is to be witnessed by prominent Nigerian politicians and, in particular, PDP chieftains from in and outside Kogi State, Mohammed will unfold his blueprint for the socialÂ and economic transformation of the state.
He was born on April 4, 1950 at Ologba in Dekina LGA of Kogi State. He attended CMML School, Ikpakpala and St. Josephâ€™s Primary School, Anyigba where he earned his First School Leaving Certificate in 1964.
He had his post-primary education at the famous Government Secondary School, Okene between 1965 and 1969. He proved his mettle as a hardworking and brilliant student when he made Division One in the West African School Certificate in 1969.
While working as a Clerk at the Federal Ministry of Labour in Ilorin, he read at home for his GCEÂ AÂ Level and came out with excellent result.
In 1972, Mohammed gained admission to the University of Lagos, UNILAG, where he studied Mass Communication. He graduates in 1975 with B.Sc Honours degree (Second Class Upper Division).
