UNN admits 4,000 students

ENUGU—ABOUT 4,000 fresh students have been admitted into various academic programmes of the University of Nigeria, UNN, Nsukka for the new academic session, commencing March 10.
The university announced yesterday, the commencement of the new academic session, with an integrated orientation programme for fresh students to run for three days from March 15.
Acting Registrar of UNN, Ogbueshi Anthony Okonta, in a statement, said that the university would welcome the fresh students for the 2009/2010 academic session on its campuses at Nsukka, Enugu, Ituku Ozalla and Aba from Wednesday.
He said that the university is working hard to bring the academic calendar back to normalcy, following disruptions caused by the four-month strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities and its own internal disturbances.
One of the highlights of the resumption is the revamped orientation programme for new students and the Vice Chancellor, Professor Bartho Okolo is expected to lead the University management team to welcome the fresh students.
According to the statement, Education Sector Reform Expert and United States-based consultant, Dr. Chidi Onyia is coordinating the three-day orientation programme with the theme, “Incorporating Core Values in the Vision for Learning Excellence: A Path to Restoring the Dignity of Man.â€
