MAKURDI — Special Adviser to Governor Gabriel Suswam on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Sam Ode, has decried the mal-administration and alleged financial recklessness uncovered in some local government councils of the state by the Benue State House of Assembly.
While lauding the ongoing probe of the 23 councils by the Benue lawmakers, the Special Adviser said the exercise would expose the ills inherent at the third tier of government in the state.
Ode who made this assertion while fielding questions from newsmen in Makurdi, frowned at the manner some chairmen in the state misappropriated the excess crude funds that accrued to their councils last year in spite of warnings from Governor Suswam that the fund be judiciously applied.
He recalled that his office embarked on a statewide sensitization tour in November 2009 where he met with the chairmen as well as all stakeholders in the local government areas with a warning to hold the chairmen accountable for the wrong application of the excess crude funds.
