Suspected militants attack Delta police station
By Emma Amaize
WARRI—SUSPECTED militants attacked the Bomadi Police Station in Delta State in the early hours of yesterday and seized two rifles.
They also injured one of the policemen on duty, who is now hospitalized as a result of the incident.
The motive for the attack was not immediately known, but the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Yakubu Alkali, visited the police station to ascertain the situation on ground yesterday.
Commander of the Joint Task Force, JTF, on the Niger-Delta, Major-General Sarkin Yarkin-Bello, confirmed to Vanguard when contacted that the men of the task force were already at the police station over the attack.
Vanguard learnt that the gunmen overpowered the policemen on duty and took their rifles from them. Efforts to get the Delta State police spokesman, Charles Muka, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, for comments failed but it was gathered that the Commissioner has ordered a comprehensive investigation.
