Students, villagers besiege airstrip for Imoke
OBUDU—Bebi Airstrip, about 45 Kilometres from Obudu Mountain Resort, was besieged by the rural communities and students of Federal College of Education, Obudu, as Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State was about boarding an aircraft enroute Abuja, last weekend.
The action of the people was propelled by the Governor’s involvement in a minor car accident on his way to the resort.
Imoke, who was accompanied by the Deputy Governor, Mr. Efiok Cobham, Ntufam Ekpo Okon, state PDP Chairman, Chief Peter Abuo his Deputy, and other party faithful, was cheered by the surging crowd that was prevented from entering the airstrip by security men as they were there to pledge their solidarity as well as wish him well.
The people, who thronged the airstrip, claimed the large turn out was not to see the aircraft, but express their love for him because of the numerous people-oriented projects initiated across the state.
They said they will pray constantly for his quick recovery to enable him “continue with his good works.â€
Mr. Boniface Adie, former secretary of Obudu local government council, prayed that the incident, the first of its kind in the area, does not happen again and wished the Governor well.
