Trading activity on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) resumed the week on a bullish trend as the value of listed equities appreciated, Monday, by N37.62 billion.
Also trading in the market was driven by activity in the banking sub-sector, as it accounted for 49.52 per cent of the market turnover.
The market capitalisation,Â representing the value of listed equities, rose by 0.63 per cent to N5.962 trillion from N5.924 trillion at which it opened the dayâ€™s trading. The All-share index also rose by 0.63 per cent to 24,673.55 points from 24,517.88 points.
The banking sector dominated the other sub-sectors in the sectorial analysis, recording a transaction of 208.4 million shares valued at N2.21 billion in 3,729 deals. Shares of United Bank for Africa Plc enjoyed the most patronage in the sub-sector, as investors exchanged 39.02 million units of its shares valued at N567.88 million in 268 deals, Zenith Bank Plc followed with the exchange of 29.26 million shares valued at N519.55 million in 399 deals and First Bank of Nigeria Plc recorded 14.77 million shares valued at N232.68 million in 723 deals.
The Insurance sub-sector followed in the sectorial analysis, accounting, accounting for 25.38 per cent of the market turnover, with 106.78 million shares valued at N137.77 million in 518 deals.Â Law Union and Rock Insurance Plc emerged the most active in the sub-sector, trading 27.27 million shares valued at N13.66 million in 11 deals, Universal Insurance Plc followed with the exchange of 25.18 million shares valued at N12.59 million in three deals, while Custodian and Allied Insurance Plc recorded 20.87 million shares valued at N77.58 million in 81 deals.
In all, a turnover of 420.8 million shares valued at N4.53 billion was recorded in 7,274 deals, dropping by 8.41 per cent from Fridayâ€™s turnover of 459.44 million shares valued at N4.15 billion in 7,483 deals.
UAC Nigeria Plc recorded the most share price gain, rising by N1.95 to close at N47.95 per share, Glaxo SmithKline Consumer Plc followed with a gain of N1.47 to close at N30.97 per share and Julius Berger Nigeria Plc garnered N1.44 to close at N30.34 per share.
Other share price gainers include: Beta Glass Company Plc N0.65, Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc N0.50, Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc N0.50, GTBank Plc N0.49, UAC Property Development Company Plc N0.47, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated N0.45, Dangote Flour Mills Plc N0.42 among others.
On the contrary, Benue Cement Company Plc recorded the most share price loss, dropping by N2.98 to close at N58.40 per share, Nigerian Enamelware Company Plc followed with a loss of N2.64 to close at N50.21 per share and Conoil Plc dipped by N2.00 to close at N38.00 per share.
Other share price losers include: Lafarge Cement WAPCO Plc N1.38, Oando Plc N1.31, Flour Mills Nigeria Plc N0.88, Ashaka Cement Plc N0.78, Nigerian-German Chemical Plc N0.75, Eterna Oil and Gas Plc N0.25, Vitafoam Plc N0.25 among others.
