ABUJA—The Senate is today considering the suitability of Mr. Samuel Ukura as the Auditor General of the Federation, AGF.
The Senate is also today expected to consider the report of its Committee on Niger Delta on the nomination of Mr. Donald Omorodion as the Edo State representative on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
Senators from Edo State are split on the nomination with Senators Odion Ugbesia and Yisa Braimoh campaigning against the nominee who is being backed by Senator Ehigie Uzamere.
Mr. Ukura’s nomination for the coveted job has recently drawn attention on the basis of the fact that he could be the first Auditor-General of the Federation to have come from outside the office of the Auditor-General of the Federation.
The nomination of the Benue born civil servant for the position of Auditor-General Vanguard learnt is raising concern among some Senators on the fact that some presidency officials may have taken opportunity of the ill-health of President Umaru Yar‘Adua to subvert the process.
President Yar‘Adua had in a memo prior to his ill-health mandated the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed to process the nomination taking into consideration the career progression within the office of the Auditor General.
