AWKA—KIDNAPPERS have struck again in Anambra State after some months of peace, as they abducted a businessman, Chief Fimbaars Ofordum, early yesterday at Igboukwu in Aguata Local Government Area of the state.
Offordum, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Oquism group of companies, was returning to Onitsha after spending the weekend in his village at Igboukwu, when he was abducted at Nkwo Market Junction in the town and taken to an unknown destination.
An eye witness, said that the gunmen, numbering about three, who operated with a blue Mitsubishi L-300 bus, shot sporadically into the air to scare away passersby, before dragging their victim out of his Nissan Laurel salon car and forced him into their bus.
Meanwhile, the kidnappers were said to have demanded a ransom of N260 million from members of his family, who they had contacted. According to the source, the abductors called his family barely after four hours of the kidnap and demanded the money.
Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka, said he had not been briefed on the kidnap incident, although the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ekwulobia, which covers Igboukwu, scene of the kidnap, Mr David Dang, confirmed that the matter was reported to the Division, adding that investigation is on-going. He, however, said they were yet to establish contacts with the kidnappers.
