Action Congress, AC, governorship candidate in Ebonyi State in the 2007 general elections, Chief Obasi Obasi, has said that Nigeria needs dynamic young men and women holding executive positions at all level of governance, especially at the centre.
In an online interview with Vanguard, the US based businessman said “at the centre, we need as president, a person with sufficient moral leadership, who can be a catalyst for change and who has a verifiable track record of result based leadership and is courageous enough to step on toes.â€
He said, “beyond party politics and speaking patriotically, I would want to see people like Muhammadu Buhari, Professor Pat Utomi, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Col. Abubakar Umar, Donald Duke or even Nuhu Ribadu as president. Any of these people would suffice but left to me, I would be delighted with El-Rufai or Donald Duke as president of Nigeria.
“Take El-Rufai for example, this is a man who was willing to refuse to pay bribe to Senators to be confirmed as a Minister and also exposed those who asked for bribe and most importantly named names,†he added.
That shows he is not willing to do anything to get to power. Also, in restoring the Abuja Master Plan, he demolished the property of men of power including former Heads of States, serving Ministers and Governors as well as the chairman of his own political party. That shows he is prepared to step on toes and we need as president someone who is willing to step on toes.
“He also impressed me recently with his deftness in state craft and international affairs by writing that letter to US President Barack Obama in the wake of the attempted airline bombing by a Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, which was more effective than anything the Federal Government did in response to that crisis under the headship of President Umaru Yar’Aduaâ€, he said.
