NYSC members participate in contest, win prizes

Members of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Ogun State participated in a keen competition which took place last weekend at the state NYSC camp.

The event is the 2010 NYSC beauty contest which was preceded by “the Bold and Beautiful” contest, with each of the female contestants involved in cat walking the length and breath of the stage to flaunt their natural endowments.

While Miss Kelechi Precious emerged the overall winner of the beauty contest from among the 15 contestants, Abayomi Omotariogun came top among the male contestants, emerging Mr. Macho.

The Ogun State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Bukola Ololade who presented the overall winner of the Miss NYSC Beauty contest with the star-prize of a Compaq Laptop, commended Fayrouz and Nigerian Breweries Plc for the initiative to make the camp a memorable experience for the corps members through the sponsorship of the beauty contest.

He however, urged the corps members to shun all forms of social vices and be of good behaviour as they prepare to go into the world as men and women who would become Nigerian leaders in the nearest future.

According to Ololade who was  the special guest of honour on the occasion, Nigeria is blessed not only with natural resources, but abundant human resources exemplified by the bundle of talents exhibited by the contestants at the various categories of the beauty contest.

He, however, pledged the continued support of the state government to the NYSC to enable the government achieve the objective of setting up the scheme in 1973.

Various other prizes ranging from Refrigerators to TV set with DVD players were won by the first and second runners-up, Miss Adeyelure Henrietta and Omolade Morenike Afonja, respectively.

Winner of the Mr. Macho competition, Ayobami Onotariogun went home with a giant TV set while both first and second runners-up, Earnest Onuigbo and Henry Agada won refrigerator and DVD player, respectively.

Dignitaries who witnessed the event include the Ogun State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Bukola Ololade, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Matters, Yemi Shodimu, Marketing Manager, Non-alcoholic Nigerian Breweries Plc, Mrs. Ifeoma Dozie as well as officials of the state NYSC and Ikenne Local Government Area.
