The Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF) has selected a total of 21 junior weight lifters that will resume camping immediately for the Youth Olympic Games qualifiers holding in Egypt from March 19-27.
The federation after a three-day trials held at the Indoor Sports Hall, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos picked seven males and fourteen women lifters. Among the selected lifters include: Kingsley Kalu from Cross Rivers, David Adeyemo, Oyo, Taju Giwa (Niger) and Adbul Rasaq (Kogi) in the 56kg weight class. Others are Emmanuel Ofor (Abia) in the 69kg, Ismaila Sadiq (FCT) in the 77kg and Felix Joseph (Rivers) in the 85kg.
In the female categories are: Tosan Bawa (Delta), Bose Sunday (Rivers), Grace Isa (Katsina) and Augustina Nwokolo of Ogun in the 48kg weight class while in the 53kg are Elizabeth Onua (Edo), Onyeka Azike and Mufili Bankole both from Osun in the 53kg and in the 58kg class are Rachael Ekoshoria of Edo and Uche Agu of Abia.
Others are Aishatu Ibrahim (Katsina), Obioma Okoli (Ondo), Itohan Ebireshuesele (Edo) in the 63kg and in the 69kg are Blessing Ezealor (Imo) and Bilikisu Otunba of Ogun.
The lifters resume camping latest today at the National Institute for Sports, National Stadium, Lagos.
Meanwhile, the President of NWF, Chimdi Ejiogu who was impressed at the large turn out of lifters at the trials promised that his administration would provide a level playing ground for all lifters to prove themselves.
He also promised that there be regular championship for lifters beginning from the month of June.
