GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state has declared that the state government has no plans to dissolve local government councils.
His declaration comes as the newly sworn in Chief Judge of the State, Justice Cromwell Idahosa ordered the re-opening of the secretariat of the Owan West Local Government Council of the state, which was locked up by armed mobile policemen following a court judgment which was Appealed by the Council.
Oshiomhole who made the clarification Friday at an enlarged meeting of the state Action Congress in Benin-City, acknowledged that there have been speculations about plans to dissolve the councils, saying that he refused to do that because that will unnecessarily heat up the system.
He informed the AC leaders that the national election will take place in the first quarter of next year, reminding them that it will be crucial and challenging, noting that the party must have its primaries in a transparent manner because the party had complained against one man dictatorship, adding “that our own must be seen to be more purposeful, transparent and more participatory.â€
The governor advised those who are interested in contesting should ensure that they become candidates through legitimate means instead of attempting to service the wheels of local godfathers
