Former national team handler, Paul Hamilton, has advised the new technical manager of the national team, Lars Lagerback, to always have at the back of his mind the target set for him by his employers.
Speaking in a telephone interview with Sports Vanguard, the former Nigerian international said, “If I were Lagerback, I would be mindful of the target set for me by the panel that interviewed me. I will ask myself some telling questions. Is the target achievable? Can I meet up? That is what I will do before accepting the job.â€
He added that now that the Swede had accepted the job it meant he viewed the task as a possibility and hoped he could achieve it.
Hamilton hoped the choice of Lars Lagerback as the new technical manager was the best choice for Nigeria. He told Sports Vanguard that he believed those who were charged with the responsibility of engaging a new manager for the national team.
“They told us that Lagerback was the best among the coaches that turned up for the interview, why should I doubt them?†he asked quizzically.
“Those charged with the responsibility of giving us a coach said they have given us the best. We should expect the best from Lagerback. I cannot judge his qualities because I was not part of those that interviewed him. I only hope and pray they have given us the best.
