N500m scam: EFCC arrests Bayelsa Accountant-General, others
By Emman Ovuakporie
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested the Bayelsa State Accountant-General, the Director of Treasury and others over the movement of N500 million from the state coffers.
It was reliably gathered that the operatives of the commission picked the officers on Tuesday evening though the commissioner for finance escaped through the window and was subsequently declared wanted by the agency.
It was also revealed that the officials were picked up over the movement of N500m from the state treasury to a private account. According to an EFCC source, the N500m was transferred in the last week of February.
The source explained that the anti-graft agency which had been on the trail of the said money is interested in the identity of the owner of the said private bank account.
EFCC’s Head, Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Babafemi, confirmed that the officials are in the custody of the agency but refused to give more details.
