The Lagos State government has reiterated its determination to explore ways to improve and encourage the development and growth of Small and Medium Scale Enterprise,Â SMEs, and alsoÂ create self-employment opportunities in the state.
Governor Babatunde Fashola, who stated this at the official opening of Fidson Healthcare Plcâ€™s corporate head office in Lagos, said SMEs were critical for the diversification and growth of the economic base of the country.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Commerce, Mr. T. O. Raji, the Governor said, â€œLagos has become a major emerging market in Sub-Sahara Africa and a destination of preference for investors.
â€œOur administration is committed to investing heavily in infrastructure that will create the platform for the desired economic growth and huge returns on the investments made by our partners. We believe that SMEs are critical for the diversification and growth of the economic base of the nation.â€
Fashola also reminded corporate and individual citizens to honour their civic obligations by paying their taxes, sayingÂ â€œit is the only way the government could manage refuse, provide education to develop the manpower that is so critical to the development and sustenance of businesses that generate profits.â€
