The draws for the 33rd edition of the Africa Junior Tennis Championships will be held this evening at the Package B tennis section of the national Stadium, Abuja.
Already on ground to perform the event that will serve off the tournament proper is International Tennis Federation (ITF)/Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) Development officer for West and Central Africa, Amine Ben Makhlouf said.
According to the official, 28 countries are in the draw ceremony which will take place at 6.30pm at the Tennis Centre, Package ‘B’ of the National Stadium Abuja.
Amine said shortly after the draw that is expected to last 30 minutes, the ITF/CAT officials and the eggheads of the Nigeria Tennis Federation will go into a closed-door technical session and meeting to precede the matches, which serve off on Tuesday.
On his impression about the readiness of Nigeria to host the tournament, Makhlouf said “from what l have seen so far there is no doubt that this is going to be a success. In terms of organisation and facilities put in place for this tournament, Nigeria has impressed ITF and CAT. These courts can host any ITF tournament including the prestigious Davis Cup.
Some of the countries for the draw include Mauritius, Namibia, Tunisia, Libya, South Africa, Kenya, Morocco and Zimbabwe. Others are Algeria, Benin, Botswana Burundi, Cameroon and Ivory Coast. Others are Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Lesotho Sudan and Togo.
