Former president of the Performing Musicians of Nigeria (PMAN), Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa aka Charly Boy has blamed Nigeria’s football woes on mismanagement and bad leadership of the Nigeria Football Association, NFA over the years.
According to the controversial musician and entertainer, the Super Eagles are a great team but “we are yet to see their potentials because of the bad management from the NFF or NFA, whatever they call themselves. The problem of our football is mismanagement and bad leadership.â€
The maverick musician known for his power bike, rings and perforations who was speaking on his visit to Vanguard Media said “I think we’re blessed as a country because if not for the Super Eagles and Nigerian entertainment industry, this country wouldn’t have any kind of name whatsoever out there.â€
On the issue of a foreign or local coach for the Eagles, Charly Boy said “I think we should do away with all those foreign coaches,†adding in pidgin English that “our problem no pass management.â€
He stressed before a team of Saturday Vanguard Editors and reporters that “In this country, if we are to remove mediocrity, tribalism and favouritism, if everything in this country is done on merit, why should we employ a foreign coach.â€
He berated the NFA for the huge salary given to Swede Technical Adviser, Lars Lagerback as he described as utter “stupidity†the difference between Lagerback’s salary put at about N40 million per month to that of Shaibu Amodu put at about N2 million.
“You see the stupidity of your people? From N2m to N40m. When this one earning N40m loses a match, will they hold him back for a refund? I know that half of that money must have gone into someone’s else’s pocket.â€
