Speaker, Katsina State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ya’u Umar Gwajo Gwajo, has urged Nigerians to exercise caution in their comments over the health condition of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, saying that provocative and inflammatory remarks on the issue could endanger the country’s democracy.
Gwajo gave the advice in a press statement in Katsina at the weekend.
Commenting on the tension generated by three months absence of Yar’Adua due to ill health, the speaker said that the survival of Nigeria’s democracy could only be guaranteed if people stopped being belligerent in their views and utterances.
The president’s home state is Katsina where Gwajo is among the political gladiators.
He said that for the country to enjoy political stability, the people must shun what he described as the ongoing campaign of calumny and actions that are detrimental to the continuous existence of the country.
“Bellicose statements are capable of jeopardizing the peace and stability of the nation and bread tension, confusion and enmity within the political sovereignty and consequently truncate the nascent democracy
“The hardening stance of perpetrators of these dastardly and orchestrated campaigns of calumny has the capacity to bring the country to ridicule both within and outside the continent of Africa,†he said.
Gwajo therefore advised politicians to stop inflammatory utterances and concentrate on issues that could move the country to greatness.
