The traditional ruler of Achalla in Anambra State, Igwe Ezeoba Alex Nwokedi, has disagreed with the Minister of Police Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Yakubu Lame, that the police should be blamed for the problem of insecurity in the country, describing the statement as unfair.
Igwe Nwokedi, who is one of the foremost traditional rulers in the country in a telephone interview with Saturday Vanguard yesterday said blaming the police for the incessant insecurity in the country was like putting the cart before the horse, adding that the Federal Government should first and foremost reposition the Nigeria Police and get the law-enforcement agency fully kitted for the task before it.
He said rather than blaming the police, the agency should be appreciated for the good jobs it has done for the good of Nigeria and its people, pointing to the last Anambra governorship election as an example.
He advised that adequate provision should be made on infrastructure such as barracks, stations and effective communication equipment adding that the minister could now blame the police if, after all requirements have been provided and yet the it fails to perform.
