OWERRI—Ahead of the congress of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Imo State, major stakeholders in the state have resolved to be guided by the state Governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim towards the constitution of a new state executive.
They have also requested the National Working Committee of the party to call to order, some party members who have been fomenting trouble and resisting the leadership of Ohakim.
After an emergency meeting in Owerri, attended by two former Deputy Governors and other party chieftains, the stakeholders in a statement insisted that as the leader of PDP in Imo State, Ohakim has every right to make input in the election of the new state executive.
Addressing newsmen after the meeting, one of the signatories to the statement, Dr Samfo Nwankwo, deplored the activities of those he referred to as Abuja politicians for promoting disunity in the party.
Dr Nwankwo specifically accused Commerce and Industry Minister, Chief Achike Udenwa and Senator Ifeanyi Araraume of engaging in anti-party activity in the name of opposing the leadership of Governor Ohakim.
