‘How patients die mysteriously at Lokoja Specialist Hospital’
By Isiaka Oyibo
LOKOJA — STAFF of the Kogi State-owned Specialist Hospital, Lokoja, yesterday gave a startling revelation of how several patients on admission at the hospital died under alleged mysterious circumstances during the tenure of the former Chief Medical Director, CMD, Professor John Onumiyan.
Governor Ibrahim Idris had announced on Wednesday the removal of Professor Onumiyan as CMD of the institution over alleged misconduct while in office.
He was immediately replaced with a new sole administrator, Dr. Paul Ahmadu to oversee the affairs of the hospital.
But staff of the hospital yesterday told a bewildered Dr. Ahmadu that “virtually on daily basis one or more patients died since the former CMD took office about a year ago and in most cases these patients died in mysterious circumstanceâ€
They said the development had on several occasions led to a face-off between him and other staff of the institution which had brought medical services at the hospital to a near paralysis.
According to them, “most of our out-patients prefer to stay away from the hospital for what they described as unsatisfactory services occasioned by months of internal squabbles and disagreement.â€
