*As he promises to produce him

ABUJA—The Police  yesterday produced the detained chairman of the Police Equipment Foundation, PEF, Chief Kenny Martins, before an Abuja high court sitting in Gwagwalada for the purposes of facing trial over allegation of forgery.
The trial high court, had ordered the arrest of Kenny Martins and two others upon a request by Lagos lawyer, Mr Festus Keyamo.
But the trial judge, Justice Mwada Balami, whom the Chambers of Festus Keyamo had requested, to order the remand of Kenny Martins in prison yesterday released the accused person to his lead counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, on his honour.
But that was after he had argued that he would personally bring him to court on 12 April, the next adjourned date and that the prosecution being represented by Lagos lawyer, Mr Festus Keyamo was merely persecuting him instead of prosecuting him.
He had told the court yesterday that the manner in which Kenny Martins was arrested on the precint of the Abuja Federal high court by the police was embarrassing and an affront to the entire judicial system.
He reminded the court that the purported fiat issued to Festus Keyamo by the immediate past Attorney-General of the Federation, Chief Mike Aondoakaa, SAN, to prosecute Chief Kenny Martins was set aside by Justice Bello of the Federal High Court on the grounds that it was issued against the interest of justice.
He also said that, so far, all the cases instituted by SSS, Nigerian Police, and EFCC against him could not lead to a single conviction, saying “we have defeated them in all the casesâ€.
He said Chief Kenny Martins is a law abiding citizen who attends to all his cases in court with due diligence and seriousness, adding that he has been sick and recently, he traveled abroad for a surgery.
Chief Mike Ozekhome consequently applied that Kenny Martins be released to him on his honour.
