The Criminal Bureau section of zone II , Onikan , went up in flames yesterday destroying valuables which monetary value could not be immediately ascertained.
The fire , as gathered started from one of the offices which also served as the zone’s exhibit section before it spread to other offices .
Report said there was an explosion resulting into an inferno, which rattled detectives who scampered in different directions for safety.
Exhibits affected included power generating sets, motorcycles and various files. Although the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in-charge of the zone, Mr Azubuiko Udah could not state the exact cause of the inferno, said investigation would be carried out to ascertain that. However it was reliably gathered that the fire  was caused by an electrical fault.
A source at the zone told Vanguard that the smell of smoke attracted one of the officers who on verifying, noticed smoke emanating from one of the offices used as exhibit room . The door of the affected office was said to have been forcefully opened , where the inferno surged out and spread to other offices.
The fire affected parts of the Onikan bridge, as the section is directly under it. Although the level of damage on the bridge could not be ascertained as sources said experts would be invited to determine that.
Expressing gratitude to God that the fire did not consume the entire building, Azubuiko said but for the timely intervention of his men who tried to put out the fire and the subsequent arrival of fire servicemen , the fire would have assumed another dimension.
Fire service from the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army arrived the scene first before they were joined by those from Julius Berger and Lagos state .Azubuko said noone was injured in the inferno.
