The Police in Edo state has killed an armed robber and arrested several others at Ugbowo area of Beninâ€“City while attempting to rob their victim who had gone to the bank to withdraw some money.
This is coming on the heels of the killing of a Benin-based businessman and medical practitioner; Dr. Charles Ndulue on Sunday by unknown gunmen in Benin.
Edo State Police command spokesman, Mr. Peter Ogboi who confirmed the arrest of some of the armed robbers as well as the killing of them, said an AK 47 Rifle with five magazines were recovered from them.
He added that the police also recovered the money that was snatched from the victim and over 30 rounds of ammunition from the robbers.
Dr. Ndulue was in the United States of America for many years where he practiced medicine in the state of California before coming to Nigeria about three years ago to assist his aged father, Sir Ndulue to manage the familyâ€™s chain of businesses.
He was said to had been killed by the hoodlums suspected to be hired assassins at about 12 noon in front of the State-owned Central Hospital, Benin.
Vanguard learnt that his sister in-law who was with him in his Mercedes car, was also shot and was receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital in the city while his daughter who was also in the car was not harmed.
It was further gathered that the late medical doctor turned businessman was driving home from the church when he noticed some unknown persons trailing his car.
Mr. Ogboi while confirming the killing of the medical doctor, said the police has commenced investigation into the dastardly act with a view to bringing the hoodlums to book.
