LAGOS â€” It was manner from heaven for the residents of Anthony Village and its environs, weekend, when they trooped out in their number to enjoy the free medical check-up and treatment provided by Comforterâ€™s Companions Fellowship. The event was held at Anthony Village High School, Anthony Village, Lagos.
Comforterâ€™s Companions Fellowship is a Non-Governmental Organisation which saddles itself with the responsibility of alleviating poverty and empowering people.
As early as 7.00 am, people in various ages were seen trooping to the venue for registration.Â The â€˜Comfortersâ€™ were also on hand for smooth running of the programme. The turnout ofÂ medical personnel at the venue was commendable. Medical practitioners of various skills were on ground in different sections to offer services such as free check-up and treatment for nose, throat and dental ailments. Also, breast cancer checks, laboratory, HIV and diabetic screening services were offered in addition to the several eye glasses distributed.
According to Pastor Bimbo Ajayi, Chairman, Board of Trustees of the organisation, â€œthe programme is meant for anybody who cannot afford some basic medical needs.Â With lots of affluence being flung all around by some, we still have so many who cannot meet simple medical needs.â€
On how they were able to fund the programme, he said: â€œIt is a project from membersâ€™ donations and assistance from some few pharmaceutical companies.Â No government or foreign assistance so far.â€
