APCON summons media houses, agencies over exposure of unapproved Ads

Advertising Practitioners Investigating Panel (APIP), a statutory organ of APCON charged with the responsibility of investigating professional misconduct in advertising practice in Nigeria has summoned 6 media Houses, 10 Ad Agencies and a corporate organization over exposure of unapproved advertisements.

The organizations were summoned to appear before the panel following reports by Advertising Standard Panel (ASP), bordering on exposure of regulated products prior to approval by the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON).

The indicted organizations were summoned to appear before the Advertising Practitioners Investigating Panel (APIP) at APCON secretariat in Lagos.

The organisations if found culpable will appear before the Advertising Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (APDC) which adjudicates cases of professional misconduct referred to it by the APIP as well will sanction erring practitioners.
Mr Kole Ademulegun, Chairman of APIP in his statement said, should any of the indicted organizations fail to appear before the panel, such orders will be made and proceedings taken as the APIP may deem just and expedient.

He said the violating organizations should come along with relevant documentary proof in aid of their defense.
Meanwhile, the ASP will also commence visitation of media houses in Nigeria on enlightenment campaign.

The visits are in line with the Advertising Standard panel’s mandate of ensuring that all advertisements in Nigeria are legal, decent, honest, truthful, respectful and mindful of Nigeria’s culture.
Other functions of the Advertising Standard Panel (ASP) include ensuring that advertisements are prepared.
