THE crisis rocking the sleepy town of Obosi in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State has assumed a dangerous dimension with the reported kidnap of the president of Obosi Graduates Forum, Mr. Edward Anyafulu.
Anyafulu has been in the forefront of the campaign for the resolution of the crisis which originated from a misunderstanding between some prominent people in the town and Adike Peace Foundation (APF), a body put together by Obosi people for the maintenance of peace in the area and had in fact planned a stakeholders’ meeting on the matter in the town before his sudden disappearance.
It was gathered that some people had visited Anyafulu in the wee hours of Wednesday and informed him of an urgent invitation by the traditional ruler of the town, Igwe J.U. Nwakobi for a meeting. Apparently suspicious of the group, he allegedly made telephone calls and found out that there was no such meeting, only for the group to come back to take him away.
Though the Anambra State police public relations officer (PPRO), Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka, told Saturday Vanguard that he was not aware of the incident as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Obosi had not reported such incident to the headquarters, there was apparent confusion in the town yesterday.
Several meetings were held during which the whereabouts of Anyafulu was discussed, just as Church leaders in the town have been directed to pray for his return in all the churches tomorrow. It was also gathered yesterday that some leaders of APF have suddenly fled the town.
Last month, Anyafulu had in a “Save our soul†letter to the Inspector General of Police called for prompt intervention of the police in the matter, adding that the people of the area had been living in fear since the present leadership of APF emerged
