Ajoke Odumosu boycotts Commonwealth Games

By Ben Efe
National record holder over women 400m hurdles, Ajoke Odumosu dropped a bombshell yesterday, when she declared that she will not run at the Commonwealth Games.

Odumosu said she is boycotting the 2010 Games in New Delhi, India because she was being owed allowances dating back to 2007.

“I’m not coming to Nigeria until I get all money owed me way back to 2007. The AFN president is aware of my decision,” Odumosu declared in a chat last night.

She is the second high profile athlete that is pulling the plug on the Commonwealth Games, because of non payment of allowances. Others like Nurudeen Salim have written to the AFN declaring their intention not to come for the trials.

Ajoke set the national record last at the Mobil championships, but she was not able to reproduce the effort at the Berlin 2009 World Championships. She suddenly took ill and was unable to run the hurdles and the 4x400m.
