Umuahia—Amidst speculations that he will be contesting the governorship position of the state in 2011, the Chief of Staff to Abia State Governor, Mr. Mascot Kalu has said that he has no interest in any political office, come 2011.
Briefing newsmen on arrival from his vacation abroad, Mr. Uzor Kalu described the insinuation as mere rumour.
According to him, his loyalty and service remains with the Governor, who appointed him Chief of Staff, adding that he does not know of any Uzor Kalu, that is interested in political office in 2011. He said “there has never been any problem between me and my boss. As you know, we had a cordial relationship with him when he was the Chief of Staff to my brother and that relationship remains intact,†he said.
The Chief of Staff, who said that it was laughable to think of him running against his boss in the next election, explained that there is no problem between him and the Governor. Mr. Kalu maintained that at no point in time did he discuss the issue of resignation with his boss and asserted that he has not resigned from his position.
He explained that having worked for two and a half years without leave, it was necessary that he embarked on leave, adding that he discussed it with the Governor before embarking on the leave. “There has never been any time I contemplated resignation. Like I have clearly stated, I have been working for about three years without taking my leave, though most of the time, I had been away for official business, most people thought it was a leave.â€
The Chief of Staff promised to give the Governor all the support and encouragement in his second term bid as well as to serve the government with renewed vigour. “He has not informed me that he has interest in 2011. Definitely when he does inform me, I will give him all my support in any possible way that I can,†he added.
