Group tasks Jonathan on EFCC, Uwaje rift

By Charles Kumolu

A GROUP, Nation’s Consience, NC, has called on Acting President Goodluck Jonathan to prevail on the leadership of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to desist from what it described as the criminilisation of one of its former undercover agent, Mr. Victor Uwajeh.

The group also urged the Commission to pay Uwajeh his entitlements, claiming that he (Uwajeh) worked for the Commission.

A statement by Messers Muhammed Saminu and Segun Agunbiade, said the Commission’s leadership  had asked Uwajeh to step in for the EFCC in some of its investigations, given his background as one who has considerable knowledge of the workings of security agencies.

“Uwajeh had undertaken several assignments for the Commission, using his personal resources, on grounds that he would be reimbursed at the appropriate time. But rather than oblige him his rights, Waziri allegedly started harassing and threatening him, a development which led to his detention in some prisons across the country since January,” the group said.

According to the group, Uwajeh was only released a couple of days ago.

Meanwhile EFCC’s spokesperson, Mr. Femi Babafemi has dismissed claims that Uwajeh worked for the Commission.

@Terence Onyejiaku… Are you too dumb to log on Saharareporters.com and read for yourself. The letter is there,Mr Babafemi’s statement is there and the letter in question is also there.I don’t care if Uwajeh goes to jail for life or Mrs Waziri for that matter, they are all the same barawo..Unfortunately,not everybody that can write is educated..

Pretty Farida, tell me this did not happen on your watch and I will believe you. That your agency is alleged to have done this with your complicity is choking me right now! Therefore as a seasoned attorney who vowed to defend and uphold the truth, please come out and state your agency’s side of the story. Don’t go the Nigerian way by not “being available” for comment on this. There is more on the line than meets the eye here. It may take six months to win a client, it only takes seconds to lose twenty. With your kind of mission, PUBLIC TRUST and INTEGRITY are your WATCHWORD!

Based on what Femi Babafemi said on SR, Uwajeh is their staff whose deal gone sour with Waziri. Lets wait and see what will end Waziri. I dont care about Uwajeh.

  5. Mr Femi Oyetibo, if you are sure that Uwaje threatened to expose corrupt deals of Waziri, then you have also criminalized Uwaje by potraying him as a blackmailer.
It stands to reason that if he has facts about corrupt practices and refuses to report same, then he is also guilty of corruption, as such he is not a credible character.
I hope that you can also be relied upon to give evidence of what you know, not what you read.
