ONITSHA—The Labour Party governorship candidate in the February 6 gubernatorial election, Dr. Anay Uba has called for the cancellation of the election on ground of gross electoral fraud.
Uba also said the election should be cancelled because according to him, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was incompetent to conduct the exercise following the improper constitution of the commission.
“Being improperly constituted, the commission can not and is beret of any lawful authority to conduct the said gubernatorial election in Anambra State. Accordingly, I am constrained to ask for the cancellation of the said gubernatorial election in Anambra State, same being illegal and fraught with the aforementioned legal disabilities,†he added.
Other grounds the LP candidate adduced for the cancellation of the poll were late arrival of electoral materials, absence of registered voters names in the voters register, inadequate ballot papers, snatching and stuffing of ballot boxes with ballot papers and unlawful cancellation of Uga ward I result.
“It is very regrettable to state that there was no election and no voting took place in Igboukwu I and II, Nkpologwu, Ukpo I and II, Okpoko ward 3 and 6, 20 wards in Ihiala, Ezinifite I and Osumenyi I, Obosi, Oraukwu and Ogidi, Umuokpu (Awka South) Ward 7, Achalla II and III, Ugbebe and Ugbenu, Nteje I and II and Nkwelle- Ezunaka I and II, Oko I and Nri I,” he said.
