WARRI—A FEDERAL lawmaker, Mr. Daniel Reyenieju yesterday, advised the Ag. President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, to be proactive so that he might not seem to be acting the scripts of mischievous critics and self-centered power seekers.
Speaking to Vanguard in a telephone interview, Reyenieju appealed to the Ag. President not to allow his office to be used by anybody to settle personal scores, particularly those who might want to use his name for realising personal ambitions and demonise others before him.
Reyenieju, who represents the Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Assembly said, “Now that an individual from the Niger Delta is at the helm of affairs, it is my strong view that the Ag President will ensure the much needed horizontal and vertical developments of the area, including all unreleased funds to the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, which had been budgeted and passed into law by the National Assembly, so that the commission can fully perform its statutory functions as a development agency.
The lawmaker stressed that the general view was that a Niger Delta person is there and this would in “future be counted for the region and not for any particular group and if there is no immediate genuine process of re-mediation of the age-long injustice visited on region while Dr. Jonathan is acting, it will no doubt amount to wasting a glorious opportunity and those from other regions will in future vilify us.â€
He appealed to Dr. Jonathan to be above board and distant himself from intra states and regional politics as many individuals would want to drag him into such narrow confines of politics .
