A STAKEHOLDERS’ meeting of Anambra East Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, convened by the former Caretaker Committee Chairman of the party in the state, Chief Tony Nwoye nearly turned bloody, as youths present at the meeting, held the convener hostage for hours alleging that he worked against the party at the just conducted Anambra governorship election.
In his opening remark, Nwoye said there was nothing abnormal in the action he and others took during the February 6 governorship election, adding that the national leadership of the party especially the national Chairman, Chief Vincent Ogbulafor was aware of all that transpired.
According to him, the leadership of the PDP at the national level has closed the chapter of the election and was not ready to pursue matters arising from it any longer.
“The issue of the governorship election is all over as far as the national leadership of our party is concerned. So everybody should try and forget the election so that we can move forward,†he said.
But as Nwoye made to continue with his speech, some members of the party shouted him down, even as it took the intervention of the Police to persuade the PDP youths from assaulting the former chairman.
The meeting, which took place at Tourist Garden Hotel Otuocha, had in attendance a former Commissioner for Information in the state, Chief Geo Ofokansi, Chief J. E Okeke, Hon. O C Chinwuba among others.
