Public and Community Health are special degrees Novena confers on graduands who meet admission requirements and finished the required courses of studies, adding that the impact of the programme presently with surrounding communities is glaring.

“The Intelligence and Security Studies we run in Novena University is the first and only course in African universities. To make Novena of an international standard, we have anchored the Intelligence and Security Studies of the institution on the Galilee College in Israel because Israel as a country is known all over the world as best intelligence state.”

He further said that, Albany State University, an old and well established university which is over a hundred (100) years old is in collaboration with Novena University and will help to develop the Nursing programme when it takes off, stressing that the Albany Technical College has made its technical know how available for the use of the faculties that wish to advance their know-how in practical aspect of their study.

“We have concluded a collaboration agreement with the Molecular Genetics Department of University of Antwerp, Belgium to set up the first centre for DNA Test and Forensic Sciences in this region on our campus for which a well equipped 50 -bed hospital has been built to enrich our Nursing programme when it takes off.

This is a study in pathological cases and all that for which we have established a hospital in the campus. We have capable doctors and nurses for the job. It has been fully equipped to mark us out, so that pathological cases we often send abroad for treatment could be done here. Besides, the Proprietor, Chuks Ochonogo has establish contacts with well-established institutions abroad for exchange programme. ”

He continued.

“Birmingham City University in United Kingdom is discussing with us after our agreement, students who have done one year in our institution will go there to do their full degree or spend three months or a year and come back, depending on what the parents can afford so that when they come back, they will bring experiences and exposure.” he said

According to Linus, Novena University obtained its operating license on June 9, 2005 and commenced operation on September, 2005 with 19 programmes fully accredited by NUC and having the students self reliant and independent at heart on completion of their courses at the university, adding that entrepreneurship is a course of study which cuts across whether you are a science or social science student noting that by 20th March 2010 the institution will be holding her maiden convocation ceremony.

His words: “The university operates three colleges: College of Natural and Applied Sciences, College of Management and Social Sciences and College of Health Sciences.

We plan to expand our College of Health Sciences in our second phase of development in the 2010/2011 academic session. Our philosophy is to provide broad-based training in Public and Community Health Science and Technology and produce graduates who are well grounded in primary and secondary health care delivery.

Linus further said that, there are three campuses that make up the university, adding that Ogume is the main campus, but the takeoff Campus is Amai, which is about ten kilometers from Ogume. That campus when it takes off will eventually become a College.

We are also planning a College of Agriculture at Abe which is a few kilometers from Ogume. In all these areas, we have large hectares of lands where you can carry out meaningful research.”

Moreover, the registrar gave hint on why unionism is not allowed in Novena, stressing that students unionism often metamorphose to cultism which endangers students life and if not quickly arrested distorts academic calender.
Besides, during elections into various union offices, students often engage their fellow contestants in physical warfare with dangerous weapons as observed in some institutions of higher learning adding that it becomes some kind of free for all activities and students can antagonize one another because when they want to have an election, it might turn out to be the ultimate’‘ he said.. These are things we want to avoid in our institution.

We want to point our students’ attention fully to academics and all that they need to grow to maturity that would make this nation proud of them.
