Defending champions, NNPC, yesterday, won gold in table tennis men’s team event at the 13th Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games going on in Lagos.
The winners defeated team Chevron 3-0 in a one-sided final decided at the table tennis section of Ikoyi Club 1039. Team Shell placed second while Total and ExxonMobil placed joint third after a round-robin league format concluded Tuesday.
In the women’s category, Team Shell bagged the gold medal, Nigeria Agip Oil Company placed second while NNPC and Chevron won joint third.
Meanwhile, in tennis, top seed, Kayode Adeyeye of Total defeated Ishuh Atsu of PTI in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1 to progress to the semi-final of the men’s singles event.
Helen Oladapo of NAOC was ruthless in her encounter with Tobena of NLNG as she romped through in straight sets 6-0,6-0. Ogechi rode on the back of luck as she defeated Boma Epelle of NAOC 6-7,6-1, 2-1. The loser retired due to injury.
In another encounter, Elelewor Esta of Shell dismissed the stout resistance of Lois Hamman of NLNG to record a 6-3, 6-0 victory over her.
