Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) say they will play Paraguay in a friendly in London — but Paraguay say they are playing Athletic Bilbao instead.
The NFF says the game had been arranged as part of their build-up to the World Cup in South Africa.
It is supposed to be on March 3 at The Valley, the home of English club Charlton Athletic.
But the Paraguay Football Association (APF) told the BBC negotiations with Nigeria had fallen through.
The APF spokesman said that after the breakdown in talks they reached an agreement with Athletic Bilbao – and that their deal with them would not be broken.
The Super Eagles are in Group B in South Africa, which also features Argentina — hence their attempt to sign up South American opposition.
Egypt and Ivory Coast will be in London on March 3 to play England and South Korea respectively.
March 3 is the only date on the Fifa calendar for official friendly games before June’s World Cup in South Africa.
