In the absence of a substantive coach for the Eagles ahead of their March 3 game against Paraguay, Nigeria Football Federation Secretary-General, Bolaji Ojo-Oba, said that he would do the team selection for the match.
He said in Abuja that the match against the South Americans in London is a must even as the NFF is yet to engage a coach to lead the team to the World Cup in South Africa. Ojo-Oba said that the NFF will name the new coach on February 28 and he will immediately start a 21-day preparation towards the SA 2010 tournament.
“We will make an announcement by February 28 at the latest. The new coach may just observe the match in London from the stands.â€
“We cannot wait for the new coach because there is no time, so we will call up the players, and the team will resume camp for the game.â€
He refused to say categorically, however, that reassigned coach Shaibu Amodu will not be in charge for the game “There will definitely be somebody in charge for the game, but I cannot say for now whether that person will be Amodu or not.
“We will make a pronouncement on that before the match.â€Amodu and his entire technical crew have been redeployed to coach the local Eagles.
