Former Gombe State Football Association, Alhaji Ahmed Gara Gombe has called for a radical change in the Super Eagles if the country wants to make any head way in the game.
Gombe who said that the performance of the team at the last Nations Cup really exposed them, added that they not likely to do the country proud at the World Cup later in the year in South Africa.
He said that the Nigeria Football Association, NFA, was at the root of the team’s poor performance of the team.
“I will put the whole blame on the NFA who forced unfit players on the technical crew due to what they want to gain, they’ve turned the national team to a business firm where the people in the NFA have a percentage of players who the coach must use.
What was Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Nwankwo Kanu, Obinna Nwaneri, Joseph Yobo, Chidi Odiah, Danny Shittu and other unfit players doing in the team?
I heard some people saying that we played well. Why should people be deceiving themselves that we played well. I disagree with that. We need a radical change in sports generally in, starting from the Sports Minister, Engineer Sani Ndanusa. I have to include the Minister because he is in charge of sports in the country.
The technical crew of the Eagles also must be shown the way out and some of the old players must be dropped from the World Cup bound team,†he argued.
Gombe stressed that younger players should be groom for the 2014 World Cup while a coach should be employed for a long period in order to give him time to discover new players that can bring back the country’s lost football glory.
He argued that the present NFA Board should not think of coming back for a second term because the present state of the country’s football was as a result of the lack of vision on the part of Sani Lulu, Taiwo Ogunjobi, Amanze Uchegbulam and the rest.
“Sani Lulu, Taiwo Ogunjobi, Amanze Uchegbulam and others should not think of coming back for a second term, they are a disgrace and should cover their heads in shame. Nigerians should not accept the electoral committee they chose to oversee the next NFA election because it is unconstitutional,â€Gombe stressed.
