The latest addition to the Eko Hotel & Suites, the Expo Hall which has gulped over N7b will not only boost the tourism business of the country, but will add glamour to the Lagos state governmentâ€™s mega city project.
Panos Panayis, General Manager, Eko Hotel and suites, in a chat with the media last week the new Conference Centre called the Eko Expo Hall which opened recently with the hosting of the prestigious MNET Face of Africa modeling competition, has continued to attract commendation from the organisers of the event and the high profile attendees of the show.
â€œThe new Expo centre represents a unique proposition for Lagos, the economic capital of West Africa.. It has a capacity of 5,000 people, with state of the art centre, where international trade shows and big conferences can happen now in Nigeria.
â€œWe already have a lot of interest from people from abroad, who want to come into Nigeria to do their conferences here. And I believe this is another step in promoting tourism and business in Nigeria, in promoting the coming of foreigners in Nigeria so that they could see that it is good to work here and that this is a place to invest their money, as well as provide employment for many people.
â€œThis is one of the projects since I came and hopefully, it is to finish this year. In addition we are also building another hotel of 180 studio suites, which is expected to finish towards the end of 2010.
The general Manager added â€œ with five exhibit halls of capacities ranging from 450 square meters up to 5500 square meters, three additional meeting halls, eleven state of thje art meeting rooms, this unique venue promises to establish as the conference and banquet capital of West Africa.â€
Panos Panayis noted that the centre is an answer to requests from both the exhibition and conference organizers, but also event organizers such as concerts, large banquets and other entertainment events that could not find in the cosmopolitan city of Lagos a venue of this magnitude.
The GM said the splendour of the building was there forÂ all to seeÂ and the comments of the organizers and attendees were extremely flattering.
He explained that the centre can accommodate comfortably up to 7000guests for concert or other theatre style event and up to 5000 guests in a conferencing, banqueting and catering.
While explaining that the Hotel and the centre work together, he said â€œ In terms of service I am always striving to improve the service that we give to our customers, so as to make their stay more enjoyable.
We have finally completed the construction of a new power plant away from the hotel services. So we are generating our own power, and we hope that this will give more comfort to our customers. So there have been a lot of projects designed, and effected, in order to make people see Lagos and Nigeria primarily as the place to be.
The new centre is built on the original location of the Old Eko Expo and has a footprint of nearly 8000 square metres. It represents a major undertaking by the owners and managers of Eko Hotels that decided to invest on a joint project to replace the old expo centre and build an adjacent 180 room convention luxury hotel.
