GOVERNOR Adebayo Alao-Akala of Oyo State, Are Musulumi of Yoruba land, Alhaji Azeez Arisekola Alao and Senator Lekan Balogun have variously described the death major sports financier and industrialist, Chief Nathaniel Idowu as a huge loss to the state. He died on Saturday in a London hospital.
The governor, through his Special Adviser on Public Commun- ication, Prince Dotun Oyelade said, “Oyo State government is disheartened by the death of Chief Nathaniel Idowu. A sport philanthropist of the highest order, he volunteered his huge financial treasury to promote sport at all levels.
“ Often times, when Nigeria was going to be disgraced at international sporting fora, Chief Idowu would come to the rescue without any self adulation.â€
Also Senator Balogun said he was a philanthropist to the core. : “I worked closely with him when he lost Leyland to mischief makers. I knew him very well. He was a humanitarian philanthropist, a committed Ibadan man even though he had an international orientation.â€
