National Agency of Food and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has charged a Kano-based businessman, Mr. Uche Uzor, before a Federal High Court, Lagos for importation of large quantity of fake Lonart tablets.
The is part of the agencyâ€™s fightÂ against importation of fake and unwholesome drugs.
The accused person, who resides in Kano, was charged on a two-count charge of alleged importation of fake drugs and unregistered drugs by the agency. The matter is before Justice Mohammed Sanni.
According to the prosecution, the accused person, prior to his arraignment, was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on January 2010, for the alleged offence.
The accused pleaded â€œnot guiltyâ€ to the charge, but was remanded in prison custody, shortly after his arraignment.
The accused person is contending in his bail application, that heÂ came to court without being forced and that he will present himself to face the charge against him, if admitted to bail.
According to him, it will be in the interest of justice to admit him to bail, as the prosecution will not be prejudiced in any way if the bail is granted.
