N-Delta group asks Yar’Adua to apologise to Nigerians

WARRI — As  reactions continue to follow the undisclosed arrival of President Umaru Musa Yar’ Adua, Wednesday morning, the Niger Delta Peace Initiative (NDPI),has asked the recuperating  President to immediately tender an unreserved explanation to Nigerians for violating some sections of the nation’s constitution.

NDPI took the position after an emergency Executive Council meeting recently following the sudden arrival of the President to Nigeria from Saudi Arabia.

In a statement made available to Saturday Vanguard, and signed by the duo of Chief John Agabi, Chairman and National Co_ordinator, Mr. Matthew Itsekure, the Niger Delta peace body said the prolonged absence of the President and the unannounced arrival in the early hours of Wednesday, shrouded in secrecy necessitated the move by group to demand for some clarifications about the unfolding development.

NDPI stated that in order to avoid friction in governance “we are calling on Mr. President to address the National Assembly on why he failed to comply with section 145 of the Nigerian Constitution, which  he swore to uphold when he took over as President,” stressing that it was during his absence, the National Assembly passed a resolution empowering Dr. Goodluck Jonathan Acting President.
