The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) organised seminar for match officials which began in Ilorin, Kwara State on Thursday has witnessed a large turn out of participants with over 100 people on ground going by the last census conducted Friday morning.
Referees from the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja, table officials and match statisticians are all featuring in the refresher programme which kick starts the men’s DStv League and Zenith Bank League for women. Technical partners of the sponsors and the Federation SuperSport and club coaches are also on ground.
The Vice president of the Federation Mr. Muktar Malone Khaleh said that the event is aimed at getting every technical official involved with the league ready with all the updated rules of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).
“It is mainly a programme for the referees, technical commissioners and statisticians but we have brought in the coaches so that they are also updated. We have realised that some of the coaches are a bit behind and feel cheated when updated rules of the game are applied. Those negative reactions can incite spectators and that is one of the things we don’t want to keep happening in our leagues as we expand.
