The gradual development of shanties and slums in some locations in Ogun State would be tackled decisively to prevent the reversal of the gains of the state regional development plan.
The State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, stated this Tuesday in Abeokuta during a seminar for environment and regional planning professionals and other stakeholders.
The governor said it was a matter of great concern and an environmental eyesore that road medians in the state were being taken over by traders, noting that ‘what we see around our town and cities are not pleasing to the eyes’.
He said it was the need to arrest the ugly situation that he conveyed a meeting of the practitioners in the physical planning and environment departments of the State, saying he would not give the practitioners a pat on the back because in spite of their professional standing the job of policing the environment has not been done properly.
Otunba Daniel therefore, asked the participants to use the regional development plan of the state to effect an orderly environment that would be useful for all categories of people.
