It would be celebration galore today as the captain of the Ikoyi Club 1938 (Golf section), Demola Mumuney rounds off his one-year stewardship.
Mumuney who took over the leadership mantle of the club from Seyi Johnson in 2009 will be in the spotlight when members of the Lagos elite club tee-off the grand finale of the Captain’s Day tournament.
The 18-hole tournament is to celebrate the stewardship of the captain who has served the section meritoriously for a year.
The out-going captain served as Vice-captain under the captaincy of Johnson during which he also organised the 2008 Nigeria Cup before stepping up to serve as Captain.
Mumuney said he was happy that his tenure had offered him an opportunity to serve the golf section at the highest capacity, adding that he was ready to serve when called upon.
His position will be taken over by Ibidapo Akande who has been his second in command. The event tees-off at 6.45 am with the first group of players on the course while the last group is expected to tee off by 1.30pm .
A dinner and presentation of prizes will take place in evening at the upper terrace of the clubhouse.
Individual members and corporate bodies have been approached for support by the Captain and it is expected to be a great event.
A believer in golf deveopment among the young ones, Mumuney had said in a recent interview that Nigeria in the nearest future will produce the like of Tiger Wood if the current efforts by the club are sustained.
