Foreign coach: We’re deceiving ourselves, Onigbinde
By Kate Obodo
Former Super Eagles coach Adegboye Onigbinde has advised that rather than bothering about who should lead the national team to the World Cup in South Africa, the Nigeria Football Association, should come out with a program that will help develop football in the country.
“I have been talking about developing our football for so long now. Yet nobody seems to be interested. Where are our local players in Nigeria and the new player we want to bring in .We have to develop our players, referees, coaches and administrators.
Some people said the standard of our football has improved and I now asked where are Adokie Amiesimakas, Segun Odegbamis, Christian Chukwus in our league today? Where are they? That underlines what I have been talking about football development. Our football need development in all aspects and whatever we are going to achieve at the World Cup will be determined by what we do with the team now,†he said
On the hiring of foreign coach to lead Nigeria to the World Cup in South Africa, Onigbinde retorted, “I think we are deceiving ourselves in this country. How many foreign coaches have we had and how many have helped to truly develop football in the country.
“The problem is that we tend to be more excited with foreign coaches than our local coaches who we have refused to develop,†he concluded.
