The Edo State Government plans to acquire 73 tractors for distribution to farmers to boost food production, according to Dr Tunde Lakoju, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources.
He said Tuesday in Benin that the tractors would be subsidised by the state and federal governments, while the beneficiaries would make 10 per cent down payment.
He said that only registered cooperative societies would benefit from the scheme, with re_payment schedule expected to be completed in three years.
Lakoju said he had been touring communities in the state to enlighten the people on the need to form cooperative societies, adding that the responses had been encouraging.
He gave assurance that farmers would be provided the necessary imputs during the farming season to boost food production in the state.
