Worried by the tension in the country following the manner in which President Umaru Yar’Adua proceeded to Saudi Arabia for the treatment of  his heath problem and returned, the Human Rights Monitor, MHR, has urged Nigerians not to allow anti-democratic forces to exploit the situation and execute an agenda that will turn the country to the dark ages of dictatorship.
In a statement in Kaduna yesterday, the MHR said that both the handlers of President Yar’Adua and the National Assembly erred in the ways they handled Yar’Adua’s medical trip but warned that Nigerians must follow the part of constitutionalism for the nation to move forward.
The statement entitled, “return to the part of constitutionalism†was signed by the Executive Director of the organisation and member of the Electoral Reform Committee, Mr. Festus Okoye.
The statement read, “a measure of confusion, anxiety and fear has enveloped the country since the reported return of the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federation to Nigeria.
“This anxiety and confusion revolves around the manner of the return of the President, the resolution of the Senate and the House of Representatives empowering and mandating the Vice President to Act in the capacity of the President pending the return of the President and his resumption of duties as the President and the statements issued and made by the handlers of the President and the Acting President.
