OWERRI—Imo State Deputy Governor, Dr. Ada Okwuonu, has challenged the World Bank to intensify effort towards the kick-starting of community development projects in the state.
Okwuonu gave the charge when she received in audience at the Government House, Owerri, on behalf of Governor Ikedi Ohakim, the World Bank team leader on community development projects.
“The state government benefited a lot from World Bank projects handled by LEEMP and this resulted in the state paying its counterpart funding for the present community development projects lined-up for the state,†Okwuonu said.
Speaking earlier, the World Bank team leader, Professor Folusho Okunmadewa, explained that they were in the state to show the appreciation of his establishment to Imo State Government for its continued partnership through regular payment of its counterpart funding.
He noted that the meeting he held with the state management of the projects further proved the readiness of the state to handle the projects for its communities.
Okunmadewa, however, appealed to government to take a critical look at the law establishing the CSDP Agency, for it to benefit both the state and the World Bank.
